Dreamlab

"A New Season of the McTwilight Zone"

Erwin McManus, Awaken Humanity and the creative minds at the "experimental church" Mosaic have come up with a new product called "Dreamlab."

I call it a "product" because of this line near the end of the special invitation by Erwin McManus:

"Learn from world class 15 minute mentoring videos."

Following a now familiar pattern, people interested in signing up for the Dreamlab experience must write to an email address dreamlab@awaken.org for more information, including the cost of the mentoring videos since that information is not mentioned in the video.

DreamLab - Mentor Invitation from Erwin McManus from Awaken on Vimeo.

[By the way, in the video invitation, Erwin mentions that he is standing in a back alley in downtown Los Angeles. I hope he obtained a film permit from the city of L.A. to shoot that video!]

The description of another video posted on Vimeo says this about Dreamlab:
Source

Awaken Humanity is launching a new concept called DreamLab.

DreamLab is going to connect thousands of dreamers across the globe with mentors who want to speak into their lives and create a hopeful future. I’ve sent you this video specifically because I think that you have such valuable and inspiring wisdom that could light the fuse for so many of these dormant dreams.

Erwin

-Don't sleep through your dreams-

. . . and . . .

DreamLAB connects thousands of dreamers across the globe with mentors who want to speak into their lives and create a hopeful future. A dream is a terrible thing to waste.

"A dream is a terrible thing to waste."

This is the best the "creative" minds at Awaken could come up with? A cliched plagiarizing of "A mind is a terrible thing to waste," the UNCF's world famous slogan?

Now that is a terrible thing to witness.

UPDATE
December 17, 2009

I found the webpage for McManus Studios which lists the various "studios" under it's banner; among which is DreamLab.

This is from the FAQ's for Dreamlab:

How much does it cost?
Nothing! Awaken provides DreamLABs free of cost in order to help dreamers across the world live their dreams wide awake! Want to give back! Help us advertise DreamLABs to your friends!

How is DreamLAB connected with Erwin McManus?
DreamLAB was created by Erwin McManus and inspired by his most recent book WideAwake. WideAwake can be purchased at www.awaken.org/resources

What is Awaken?
Awaken is a collaboration between a team of dreamers and innovators who specialize in the field of developing and unleashing personal and organizational creativity. Our mission is to help people discover, cultivate and act on their divine potential to create a better world.

Awaken is committed to creating environments that expand imagination and unleash creativity. Convinced that the world is changed by dreamers and visionaries, Awaken serves humanity through its commitment to maximize the creative potential in every individual and organization. Awaken emerges out of the unique ministry of Mosaic and reflects Mosaic’s commitment to creativity, uniqueness, innovation and diversity. Awaken is a non-profit under McManus Studios.

So, the 15 minute videos are provided free of charge but participants are encouraged to "advertise" the service, which of course is a way to encourage free advertising for "Wide Awake" and all the rest of Erwin's books.

That last line about Awaken is interesting, "Awaken is a non-profit under McManus Studios."

This is different from what I was told by Jimmy Duke (the former Director/Vice President of Awaken) and Eric Bryant (the current Executive Pastor of Mosaic LA.)

In early April, 2007 Jimmy Duke sent an email informing me that Awaken was operating under a separate 501c3.

Later that same month, Eric Bryant sent me a series of emails answering my questions about Awaken.

On April 27, 2007 Eric Bryant wrote:

Awaken is a registered 501c3 under the name Awaken Humanity. We just received our paperwork recently. The Secretary of State should be updating their website soon. This summer we are registering for tax exempt status. Currently, Awaken is still a subsidiary of Mosaic until we finish this paperwork.

Both the California Secretary of State Business Portal and the State Attorney General's Registry of Charitable Trusts must not have gotten the memo from Mosaic that their state databases are mysteriously incorrect because both of them still list the following corporations as separate entities:

Awaken Center for Creativity - Corporate status: still suspended. Registry status: pending.

Awaken International - Corporate status: still suspended. Registry status: exempt/active.

Awaken - Corporate status: still suspended. Registry status: exempt/active.

Awaken Humanity - Corporate status: active. Registry status: exempt/active.

In an earlier email dated April 20, 2007, Eric Bryant wrote:

Every year the Mosaic leadership determines the relationship between Mosaic and Awaken.

So, now that "Awaken/Awaken Humanity" is under the banner of McManus Studios, the essential question has come down to this:

What is the relationship between Mosaic and "McManus Studios?"

When it comes to Erwin McManus, the answer just keeps getting more and more complicated.

Maybe only his hairdresser knows for sure.

This is an interesting development at Mosaic. I will have to look into it further. Have you also come across the new company "McManus Studios." I'm not sure what their all about but what I do know is that the main objective of this group and the one you've posted about is not to proclaim as Jesus commanded "repentance and the forgiveness of sins."

Dear Yvonne,

Since I'm sure you won't publish this comment, it is a personal note for you.

Perhaps it is time to "get over" Brady/Mosaic/Erwin and move on with your life.

Forgiveness is a virtue (and a commandment)

Pastor Cordich,

Thank you for your comment.

In addition to writing this blog, I am also an environmental activist and my attention has been focused on fighting an environmentally destructive, multi-million dollar project.

Lately I haven't had much time to devote to this blog so I didn't know about "McManus Studios." Thank you for making me aware of this new chapter in the McManus saga.

Marcus,

Sorry to disappoint you by publishing your comment but I have stated many time before that I have nothing "to get over" in regards to Erwin McManus.

Commenting on the questionable activities of a celebrity pastor is not a sin that needs forgiveness. Pastors are not above scrutiny and the Bible clearly states that leaders are to be "above reproach."

Erwin McManus does not conduct his business activities in an "above reproach" manner, if he did, there would be no need for this blog.

This is interesting.

According to the Secretary of State's California Business Portal the paperwork creating "MCMANUS STUDIOS, LLC" was filed on 7/23/2009.

The address of the person listed as the Agent for Service of Process is:

1539 E HOWARD ST MCGAVRAN HALL
PASADENA, CA 91104

I wonder if the elders of Mosaic are aware that this person is using the church's address?
